The Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) today released the official 2025-2026 district and school letter grades.
The Pulaski County Special School District grade has improved from a “D” rating to a “C” rating.
“To say that our district is excited is simply an understatement. Our principals, teachers, and really everyone in the district have worked extremely hard to make these gains. We are so proud of the work that everyone has put in, but most importantly, we are proud of our students. They are the ones who deserve the greatest commendation,” said PCSSD Superintendent Jeff Senn.
According to the ADE announcement today, three years ago, Arkansas launched a redesigned accountability formula that clearly defines the bar for academic excellence and elevates Arkansas’ focus on achievement, growth, and readiness to ensure every student is prepared for what comes next. Letter grades give families and communities a clear view of how their local districts and individual schools are performing. This is the second year district letter grades have been assigned to help communities focus more directly on school improvement.
In making the announcements, the ADE introduced a new distinction for schools — Arkansas Gem Schools. These recognition awards are for “outstanding achievement, growth, content-area performance, or sustained improvement.” Schools receiving this recognition will receive a special recognition item to be prominently displayed at each location.
Seven PCSSD schools earned the Gem School designation:
Baker Elementary School
College Station Elementary School
Joe T. Robinson High School
Landmark Elementary School
Lawson Elementary School
Sherwood Elementary School
Sylvan Hills Middle School
“We have a lot to be proud of in PCSSD, and these accomplishments are just the beginning of what is to come for our district,” Senn said.
In the coming months, district leaders will evaluate the data to determine how to sustain the current growth and find ways of broadening success.
