January is School Board Appreciation Month and we asked our board members to share a little about themselves.
Stephen Delaney likes reading newspapers on microfilm at the library. He enjoys the old political cartoons and Cynthia Howell/George Bentley stories covering past Arkansas K-12 education issues. Jon Kennedy is his favorite cartoonist but George Fisher is a close second.
One thing he's learned during the pandemic is just how crucial public education is for EVERYONE including those without school-age children. We all need healthy, safe, and functional public schools!
Thank you, Stephen, for your dedication to PCSSD!

Good afternoon Mills High Parents and Guardians. My name is Dr. Carlethia Houston, and I'm the Graduation Coach and Parent Liaison. One focus of my job is to ensure that students grades 9 through 12 are obtaining on time credits in preparation for graduation. Due to the high number of failing grades for the semester, Mills High has implemented an academic intervention where students have the opportunity to make up any missed or failing work that will allow them to obtain a passing grade for the semester. The students have received this information along with the contract in their emails. First, the student must contact the teacher of the class where a failing semester grade was received and ask for the work necessary to receive a passing grade. Second, students must complete that work and turn it in to the teacher. This intervention is available to all students, grades nine through 12, with a focus on seniors trying to meet on time graduation requirements. Please check the school’s website, under NEWS for a copy of the letter that was sent to students and the contract that students are asked to sign. The final date for students to turn in this makeup work is Friday, January 29, 2021. Please help us help your child do what is necessary to obtain passing grades. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at 501-234-5491 or at chouston@pcssd.org. Thank you.

One thing she learned during the pandemic is to enjoy quality time with my family. Her family spent every weekend this spring and summer in our RV at different lakes, rivers and campgrounds around the region.
Thank you, Alicia, for your dedication to PCSSD!

Brian Maune is married with 6 children and enjoys family time filled with camping weekends both in and out of state. He also enjoys being outdoors for hunting and fishing recreation.
One thing he's learned during COVID is that he and his wife are not blessed with stay-at-home virtual teaching skills. Those kids had to be back in school. He's very thankful for PCSSD teachers!

Picture day for grades 9-11 is FRIDAY (Jan. 15) and TUESDAY (Jan. 19)! Friday, Traditional and B-Day students will have their photos taken, and Tuesday, A-Day and Virtual students will have their photos taken. Students are expected to be at the main gym during the time slots next to the first initial of their last name. Virtual students must be on campus to have their pictures taken. Please arrive at the back entrance.
All picture orders will be online at LifeTouch's website this year to avoid contact. ALSO, if your student isn't able to get their picture taken during these two days, there is an alternative way to submit their own photo. Attached below are flyers for ImageShare (an app to share photos with the Mills yearbook staff). OR you can submit photos at images.balfour.com using product number 128399. Be sure to include the student's name and grade level. There will be social distancing procedures as students await their turn for photos inside the gym. Students must abide by the signage. For any questions or concerns, contact Mr. Taylor Lehman at tlehman9148@pcssd.org.

January is School Board Appreciation Month and we asked our board members to share a little about themselves.
Dr. Linda Remele, board president, is married with one son, one step-son, 2 granddaughters and 5 cats.
Her greatest pleasure in retirement is volunteering, especially at McPherson Women’s prison, Care Channel and at Sylvan Hills Middle.

Thank you, Dr. Remele, for your dedication to PCSSD!

We have a multi-million dollar theatre facility at our school, but no industrial tools to make the sets we need for shows worthy of our students' full potential. We have raised over 50% so far, but if we do not meet our goal by January 27th, we lose every dollar donated so far.
When our goal is met, and conditions are safe for us to return to the stage, we promise to do so in high fashion.

Parents/Guardians
This is a friendly reminder to please make sure you pre-register your student for the 2020-2021 school year. Pre-registration allows us to gage how many students we can expect for the following school year in order to determine several key factors such as how many teachers are needed.
If you have not already done so please visit the district’s website at www.pcssd.org and follow the path EXPLORE-Families-Parent Resources-Registration. Since your child is already an existing student within the district you would need to make sure you click on the Returning Student Registration Manual. Once you click on the link for the registration portal it will ask you to enter your user name and password. The default user name is Student ID# and the password is First Name and Last name initials plus your child’s 6 digit date of birth.
