We recognize the fear and uncertainty among many families in PCSSD as it relates to recent changes to immigration policies. These concerns are deeply felt throughout our schools and their impact on the sense of safety and security that is essential for effective learning.

PCSSD wants to ensure that all students and families feel safe and welcome at school. We value our students from different backgrounds and we believe that all students should be able to learn without being afraid. We are united in our responsibility to protect the rights, dignity, and safety of every child.

PCSSD will follow school safety protocols, District policy, and state and federal laws, which provide guidance on who is allowed to contact students during the school day. We do not allow people to enter our school buildings without permission and proper clearance. We are required by federal law, under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), to limit who has access to student documents. Additionally, the Supreme Court ruling Plyler vs. Doe states that a school district cannot deny any educational rights to any student, regardless of immigration status. As a result, PCSSD does not collect or have any information about a student's immigration status.

In times of uncertainty, it is more important than ever to lean on the strength of PCSSD. Together, we can ensure our students feel supported by the District and school community that upholds hope, dignity, and compassion for all. If you or your child need any help, please contact your child’s school.
