Good afternoon Mills High Parents and Guardians. My name is Dr. Carlethia Houston, and I'm the Graduation Coach and Parent Liaison. One focus of my job is to ensure that students grades 9 through 12 are obtaining on time credits in preparation for graduation. Due to the high number of failing grades for the semester, Mills High has implemented an academic intervention where students have the opportunity to make up any missed or failing work that will allow them to obtain a passing grade for the semester. The students have received this information along with the contract in their emails. First, the student must contact the teacher of the class where a failing semester grade was received and ask for the work necessary to receive a passing grade. Second, students must complete that work and turn it in to the teacher. This intervention is available to all students, grades nine through 12, with a focus on seniors trying to meet on time graduation requirements. Please check the school’s website, under NEWS for a copy of the letter that was sent to students and the contract that students are asked to sign. The final date for students to turn in this makeup work is Friday, January 29, 2021. Please help us help your child do what is necessary to obtain passing grades. She has 3 daughters and currently works as a political liaison. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and traveling One thing she learned during the pandemic is to enjoy quality time with my family. Her family spent every weekend this spring and summer in our RV at different lakes, rivers and campgrounds around the region. January is School Board Appreciation Month and we asked our board members to share a little about themselves. Eli Keller has two kids who attend PCSSD schools. His fiancée, Mary, has 3 kids. He volunteers for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Arkansas and was recently named as the State Director! One thing he learned during the pandemic is that more about the people in my life and their personalities. This pandemic showed me who is important in my life. January is School Board Appreciation Month and we asked our board members to share a little about themselves. Brian Maune is married with 6 children and enjoys family time filled with camping weekends both in and out of state. He also enjoys being outdoors for hunting and fishing recreation. One thing he's learned during COVID is that he and his wife are not blessed with stay-at-home virtual teaching skills. Those kids had to be back in school. He's very thankful for PCSSD teachers! Shelby Thomas, board vice president, has been married for 26 years with 4 kids, 1 son in law and 1 daughter in law. he has 1 grandson with another on the way! He enjoys playing golf whenever he can find find free time. One thing he's learned this year that he really likes to cook. During lockdown in 2020, he spent a lot of time cooking for my family. The governor announced Tuesday that all school employees can receive the COVID-19 vaccine starting January 18. Alex Burch with KATV Channel 7 spoke with Dr. Janice Warren about how PCSSD plans to distribute the vaccine. #pcssdproud #equityandexcellence

Picture day for grades 9-11 is FRIDAY (Jan. 15) and TUESDAY (Jan. 19)! Friday, Traditional and B-Day students will have their photos taken, and Tuesday, A-Day and Virtual students will have their photos taken. Students are expected to be at the main gym during the time slots next to the first initial of their last name. Virtual students must be on campus to have their pictures taken. Please arrive at the back entrance. All picture orders will be online at LifeTouch's website this year to avoid contact. ALSO, if your student isn't able to get their picture taken during these two days, there is an alternative way to submit their own photo. Attached below are flyers for ImageShare (an app to share photos with the Mills yearbook staff). OR you can submit photos at images.balfour.com using product number 128399. Be sure to include the student's name and grade level.There will be social distancing procedures as students await their turn for photos inside the gym. Students must abide by the signage.
